Day One and Done

So far, I haven’t died. *finger guns*
Did have a huge breakdown (I have a feeling there’s a few more those to come), didn’t eat for almost 30 hours, and got lost but like, found my way eventually. So I guess, technically haven’t gotten day 1 done as I got here at 5 pm yesterday, but I’m just gonna let it slide.
I’ve calmed down significantly, it’s hard to tell if that’s just the culture shock setting in but I’ll take it!
I’m a ten minute walk from the historic center of Guadalajara, which let me tell you is gorgeous. On my way there I took the wrong street (I ended up finding where I was headed no worries) but I’m really glad I did. The area I walked through had much older buildings mixed with some colonial structures, with various tienditas, all colored eccentrically and with advertisements hand painted adoring the sides. And, there was lots of graffiti, street art, and murals. I would have taken photos but my anxiety isn’t letting me yet...eventually.
I wanted to do a more in-depth analysis of how this mixture of generations presents itself in the community, but I’ve realized it’s only my first day. Going to Walmart was a huge accomplishment for god’s sake. I’m not going to try and force my learning, I’m going to take it as it comes. And finish this episode of The Tick since my internet is finally working. ¡Buenas noches! --Claudia
